Who are Asklepios?

The orchestra was founded in 1969 by Dr David Humphreys, a physician at what was Birmingham General Hospital. He chose the name of the ancient Greek healer, Asklepios, after visiting his temple in Epidaurus: beginning our long association with music and medicine in the city.

Times change, and so has the orchestra. From doctors to designers; gardeners, teachers and engineers, today, we offer a warm welcome to players from all backgrounds and ages
